Quick Writes

Write about the topic for five minutes without stopping.  Remember to infuse as much sensory detail (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell) as possible.  Explore how you feel about the subject so the reader gets a strong sense of how you experienced the moment or the strength of your conviction for the topic.

Write or draw about a time when you were awed by nature. Where were you... by a lake, the ocean, on a mountain top, in the woods, in your backyard? Was it during a storm?

 

Write or draw about a special gift that you gave or that you received.

 

Write, draw or list “Where I am From.”

 

Write or draw about a place that matters to you from your childhood. List all of the sensory details that you can about that place.

 

Write or draw about a memory from elementary school.

 

Write or draw about a moment when you felt proud of yourself or someone else.

 

Write or draw about a time when you felt frustrated.

 

Write or draw about a memorable birthday.

 

What inspires you? Who or what in your life makes you want to do your best?

 

Draw or write about what you are thankful for.

 

Draw or write about your favourite part of the day. Say it –no ideas but  in things.

 

Draw or write about your least favouite part of the day.

 

If you could spend an entire day with any historical figure (not living), who would it be?  Where would you go?  What would you do?  Why did you choose this person?  Why is it important to you?

 

If you could change one thing in the world right now, what would you alter?  Why did you choose this?  What can you do to start making that change?

 

If you could suddenly possess an extraordinary talent in one of the arts, what would you like it to be?  Why did you choose this?  What would your first piece of art be?  Why?

 

If you could return for one year to one age in your life, knowing what you know now, to relive that year as you wish, which year would you go back to?  Why did you choose this year?  Would you change anything that happened?  If so, why?  If not, why not?

 

If you could have personally witnessed one event in history, what would you want to have to seen?  Why?                   

 

If you had to choose the colour that describes you most accurately, which colour would it be?  Why did you choose this colour?  What colour describes you least accurately?  Why?

 

If you could be guaranteed one thing in life besides money, what would you ask for?  Why?

 

If you could only keep one of your five senses, which would you save?  Why keep this one?

 

If you had to name the most important invention in history, what would it be?  What two other inventions did you consider?  Why did you pick the one you did instead?

 

List 5 things worth saving then choose one of those things and write about it.

 

List your 5 biggest fears then choose one to write about.

 

When I'm sad and/or upset I...

 

Write a letter to your grade two self.  Start with “When I was in grade two I wish someone told me…”

 

Complete the sentence “I’d walk a hundred kilometers for ________” and continue writing about it.

 

How is life different for you compared to when your parents grew up?  Is there anything that they don't understand that they should?

 

Lost?  What happened?

 

Write a letter to someone you miss...a lot.

 

Write a quick scene involving Scooby Doo and Superman.
